Over the last few months, your assistant learned to search your tools and take actions right inside the chat. That was Answer HQ reaching out into the software you already run.

Today it goes the other way. Now the tools and agents you build can reach into Answer HQ.

Meet the Answer HQ API

Answer HQ was built API-first from day one. Everything you do in the dashboard - reading your insights, browsing your conversations, updating your knowledge - already runs over the same API underneath. Today I'm opening that API up to you.

Go to Settings → API, create a key, and hand it to whatever you want to work with your workspace: an AI agent, a no-code automation, a script, or a developer on your team. That key can do what you could do from the dashboard, safely.

What you can do with it

Two things, mostly:

  • Read your data. Pull your insights, your conversations, the questions customers keep asking, your knowledge articles - straight into whatever you're building. Point your own AI agent at it and ask "what are people complaining about this week?" and get a real answer.
  • Manage your workspace. Add and update knowledge, adjust your assistant, keep your content fresh, all without opening the dashboard.

The obvious use is agents. If you're already running an AI agent to help operate your business, it can now use Answer HQ as a tool: read what your customers are asking, and act on it.

You decide what each key can do

When you create a key, you choose its access:

  • Read - the key can look at your data, nothing more.
  • Read and write - the key can also make changes.

Give your reporting agent a read-only key. Give your content automation a read-and-write one. If a key ever leaks or an agent misbehaves, the blast radius is capped at exactly what you granted, and you can revoke or rotate it in one click.

Safety, the way it should be

I've said it before: the moment Answer HQ starts taking actions, it has to get them right. Handing out keys is no different. So a few things are always true, no matter what:

  • The sensitive stuff is off-limits. No key can touch your billing, add or remove teammates, message your customers, or get into your account and login. Those stay with you, in the dashboard, full stop.
  • A key only ever sees your own workspace. It can never reach another business's data.
  • The full key is shown once. We store only a fingerprint of it, never the key itself, so even a leaked database is useless.

A key is powerful, but it's fenced in. You're always in control of what it can reach, and you can shut it off the moment you want to.

Who it's for

API keys are available on the Pro plan and above. If you're technical, or you're building with AI agents, or you just want your Answer HQ data flowing into the rest of your stack, this is for you. Not sure where to start? Reach out and I'll help you figure it out.

Try it

Head to Settings → API in your dashboard, create your first key, and point something at it. If you're new, start a free trial - it takes a couple of minutes.

I'd love to see what you build. Reach me at hello@answerhq.co, or chat with us in the widget - yes, it's powered by Answer HQ.
